British Library Selects Intercede's
MyID Smart Card and Identity Management System For Secure
Logical Access
Lutterworth, England, July 12,
2005 - Intercede Group plc., a leading developer and supplier
of powerful smart card and identity management software, today
announced that the British Library are using its MyID smart card
and identity management system to enroll, issue, manage and maintain
smart card-based ID badges. Over 2,000 British Library staff will
use their ID badge, issued by MyID, for secure logical access
to British Library networks and PCs.
The British Library is one of
the greatest research libraries in the world with 150 million
items in most known languages including famous items such as the
Magna Carta and Leonardo da Vinci's Notebook.
With 3 million new items incorporated
every year, requiring over 625 km of shelving and over 2,000 staff
based in both London and Yorkshire the British Library recognized
that legacy usernames and passwords were difficult to manage and
would not meet their security requirements in the future. By selecting
MyID, British Library is able to manage the administration, issuance
and revocation of certificates on smart cards in a user-friendly
manner. These smart cards or ID badges are then used by British
Library staff for secure logon to the Libraries PCs and networks.
"Security, efficiency and
usability are critical goals to British Library," said Derek
Farmer, IT Security Officer of British Library. "By deploying
smart cards using MyID from Intercede, we are able to achieve
those goals, resulting in an increase to our staff's productivity,
improved security and an enhanced focus on the services that we
provide the country."
"MyID is helping the British
Library focus on their core services while keeping their digital
assets safe and secure," said Richard Parris, Chairman and
CEO of Intercede. "By working closely with our customers
Intercede solutions deliver direct benefits to British Library,
including increased security and productivity, ultimately resulting
in better service for the country."
